Salt Lake City outdoors.

You don’t have to live for the weekend. With some of the best outdoor recreation resources in the nation situated less than 30 minutes from downtown, many of us regularly head outdoors after work instead of watching the evening news. It’s also not uncommon for “powder flu” to strike on a good snow day. Outdoor recreation is a significant part of our culture in Salt Lake City.

Mountain Biking

From the high ridges of the Wasatch to the otherworldly landscapes of Moab, Utah is one of the premier areas for mountain biking in the country. Specifically, Salt Lake City and Park City mountain biking offers spectacular trails and amenities. During the summer, several ski areas open purpose-built mountain biking trails with lift access.

Skiing

With over 500 inches of perfect powder per year, Utah is said to have the Greatest Snow on Earth. Eleven resorts sit within an hour from Salt Lake, four of them less than 30 minutes from downtown. If you’re a skier, Salt Lake is one of the few ski towns where you can make a living and shred on the same day.

Rock Climbing

Wasatch Mountain climbing offer routes from beginner to advanced. Drive up any of the areas beautiful canyons and you’ll see routes within an easy hike on either side of the road. During the summer, several community groups regularly meet after work making this a great way to meet new people.

Hiking
